I hope this post meets you in impeccable health.
They say if you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don’t, they never were. But nobody talks about what happens then. Does a chance miraculously happen in the time apart or does everything remain the same?
As time goes by and we grow older, we realise that you can only lose what you cling to, so I’m learning not to cling to anything but myself because that’s who I can’t afford to lose. I’d recommend it.
In the words of Daphne Rose Kingman, “Holding on is believing that there’s only a past; letting go is knowing that there’s a future,” so in this poem I have tried to depict three stages of moving on using the Traffic Light and what each light indicates.
Red means Stop!
Stop going where you’re not wanted,
Stop believing every lie and every sham,
Stop suffocating on the pain,
Stop caring because they don’t,
Stop short changing yourself,
Stop watching as they rot, these things falling apart like fruits from a tree,
Stop crossing that thin line between loyalty and stupidity,
Stop sneaking bites of the poisonous apple for there will be no Prince to bring you back to life with a kiss,
Stop, just stop; haven’t you had enough?
Yellow means wait!
Wait preferably until the tree has lost all its fruit,
Wait enduringly even if taking it slow is not something you do well,
Wait impassively for it’s not time for you yet, so
Wait calmly until yours comes to you,
Wait quietly while the waves rush in and out again,
Wait, silently, even if you want to scream,
Wait intentionally for not just an entanglement but a connection,
Wait but not voicelessly, and
Wait patiently but not so long that you forget to just go.
Green means Go!
Go, uproot the tree, take back your life and be grateful for it,
Go into the world and give your energy, effort and time to those who deserve it,
Go and do what you want, get in trouble even,
Go, find a lover who wants to love and not just be loved,
Go, be the kind of lover who writes, sings, creates, and returns the love fully,
Go and do something risky, step out of your comfort zone,
Go on, have fun, cherish the time you have on this planet,
Go, go, go, because you could die at any moment,
So go; you only get this chance once.
Thank God I found the GOOD in goodbye.
