Hello readers,

Eid Mubarak! How is your holiday going?

I hope you’re having as much fun as I am.

SmalleeWrites is back with another collaboration, and I hope you enjoy it but first, these words:

“Whatever you are physically…male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy–all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.”

Cassandra Clare

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy–the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Brené Brown

I hear the echo of footsteps,

The tunnel never seems to end;

It’s gloomy all around,

The sun has gone down on my soul,

Is that light I see ahead?

Ooh it’s just my dreams going up in flames,

I fake a smile and say I’m fine

And everyone believes I am fine.

All around me I see zombies,

Monotonous creatures feeding on the internet;

Not knowing how to connect.

Damn, won’t this tunnel end?

The stars are dim,

I remember them all.

The moments they got me here,

How I died a bit each time,

The darkness engulfed me.

I try to reach out but everyone is in a cocoon-

Mindless zombies.

Is that a song I hear?

I remember it.

Can’t place the name though,

Happier times.

Just maybe I shouldn’t pick the blade,

The scars on my wrists are enough.

I fight back the tears

Be strong

Be strong

The stars are shining,

Just maybe there will be another dawn.

I see the impact of footprints

On this road that never seems to end,

It’s jagged and broken in places

And I don’t want to smile and pretend

That my feet don’t hurt from all the paces.

It’s the fears echoing a tune of doom;

People swim against the tides

And gasps for air

While others around them look on

Oblivious to the burning paintings next to them.

Damn, won’t this nightmare end?

The sky stretches on and on,

Stars littered everywhere,

The crickets chirp,

Fireflies shine their light

Through this overwhelming darkness

But the glow is trapped

By this unending desire

To keep it bottled inside.

Is that your voice I hear?

I miss the soothing sound.

This distance between us

I really can’t stand.

Put down the blade,

It isn’t your friend, I am.

Come to me

You don’t have to be strong.

I’ll light up the way for you

To find your way back to life and love.
